Bestiary entry[edit]

HYGRODERE

Sigurd's danger level: 0%, if you're faster than a snail!

Scientific name: Hygrodere

A eukaryotic organism classified within the paraphyletic group Prostita. With the incredible speed of reproduction, these small organisms can multiply to millions. Hygrodere rarely split apart, instead choosing to form large, viscous masses which can take up large amounts of space and become a danger to deal with, requiring large tools or lures to relocate.

Hygrodere are drawn to heat and oxygen and can detect it from seemingly anywhere. There's almost nothing organic they can't convert to their own body mass. Nothing has been found to poison them. Constantly replacing themselves, they can persist for hundreds of thousands of years. If you ever find yourself cornered, find a tall object to stand on top of; hygroderes have trouble climbing. they have great taste! cause I made a friend with one somehow,, and we think it was my music.

Spawn chances[edit]

Mechanics[edit]

A Hygrodere moves extremely slowly around the map and always attempts to move towards the nearest employee. It takes a few hits to kill an employee. Unlike most other indoor entities, Hygroderes are unable to open doors, but are able to squeeze through them if they are open. It is attracted to any sort of sound, including Clown Horns, Air Horns, Boomboxes, employee footsteps, etc.

Strategy[edit]

Because of the Hygrodere's slow speed, avoiding it is simple unless the employee becomes cornered or is dealing with other entities in the facility. The best course of action is to locate the Hygrodere and track its bubbling sounds to prevent being cornered.

Once a Hygrodere has spotted an employee, it will always know their location, so employees should keep its continual pursuit in mind. As they cannot pass through doors, employees can effectively contain a Hygrodere to a room only accessible by doors via closing them. Employees must bear in mind, however, that the entity’s slow movement speed can make trapping one a very time-consuming process.

They are also attracted to music from Boomboxes, they will chase you and stop right before they touch you, so one may be turned on and dropped to lure the Hygrodere if necessary to free a cornered employee or otherwise draw it away.

An additional danger of the Hygrodere is that they may occasionally camp bunker entrances, possibly because they are attempting to reach employees outside of the building, and thus instantly kill employees upon entry. This scenario should be considered if an employee exited the bunker while a Hygrodere was nearby, but is generally an uncommon occurrence.

Hygrodere can not attack employees that are standing on railings, this can be used to easily get past them in narrow spaces.

Trivia[edit]

  • An employee killed by a Hygrodere will only leave their suit behind rather than the whole body, however this is only a cosmetic difference.
