The Jester is a hostile entity resembling a Jack-in-the-box with legs and a single arm found indoors. At first appearing passive, the Jester will randomly begin cranking the handle attached to their body, eventually popping out and attempting to chase and kill employees.
The "jack" inside the Jester appears to be a large human skull attached to the inside of the box by a large string of flesh and muscle.

Mechanics[edit]
The Jester has four possible states: roaming, following, cranking, and chasing.
Roaming[edit]
Upon spawning, the Jester will roam and wander aimlessly, simultaneously initiating a random timer varying from 13 to 21 seconds (25 to 42 seconds in singleplayer), determining the duration before it switches to its cranking state.
Following[edit]
The Jester will roam until it detects an employee in its line of sight, where it will then continuously follow them unless a different employee is closer. While following, the Jester decreases its cranking timer by 1 every second, decreasing 15 times faster while stunned.
Cranking[edit]
Once the timer reaches 0, the Jester begins to crank its box for a randomly specified amount time, varying from 35 to 40 seconds, which will be paused (for a moment) if stunned. While cranking, the Jester cannot move.
Chasing[edit]
Once the timer reaches 0, the Jester will pop and proceed to rush towards the closest employee, killing them upon contact. It is able to detect employees regardless of range or line of sight, and it persists in its chase state until no living players remain in the building. When there are no living players left in the building, it returns to its roaming state.
Strategy[edit]
Employees should establish an escape route out of the building when a Jester is discovered, and follow this route as soon as it enters its cranking state. Employees can safely re-enter the building once 5 seconds have passed after the last living employee is removed from the building, as the Jester will have reverted to its roaming state.
Due to Jesters' target selection, an employee standing on top of Mansions' main entrance doors will be targeted last by the Jester during its chase state. If the Jester makes its way towards an employee standing on top of these doors, it means there are no other employees in the building. This employee should then exit and inform the remaining crew, and the building can again be entered after the 5-second timer expires.
Employees should go to great lengths to prevent the Jester from entering its cranking state while it is standing inside important doorways, as it will completely block passage until it begins chasing. If a following Jester is obstructing a doorway, the employee with its attention should drag it away and loop back around to safely escape. If it is already cranking and the doorway has a door, opening and closing the door might push it, too.
It is possible to stand on top of a Jester's box while it is not chasing, and this will keep employees out of range of most other creatures. However, the Jester is able to crank as usual, and it will instantly kill any employee standing on its box when it pops.
Using a zap gun on the Jester while it is cranking will result in it being temporarily paused, buying other employees more time to make an escape. In addition, any sort of stun will remove all momentum that a chasing Jester has obtained, making equipment like the Radar Booster invaluable as it can completely stunlock the Jester with good timing.
Standing on top of a bookshelf or other high place that must be jumped to will break the Jester's pathfinding. It cannot jump or climb, and will choose other targets in the building. If the only living employees in the building were out of reach and another employee enters the building, the Jester will attack this new target first.
Employees can easily trap the Jester if the crew is in the Facility and a Secure Door is available. One employee can lure the Jester into a dead end with a Secure Door and stand on the outside of the hallway, while another employee at the ship closes the Secure Door, trapping the Jester. This is rather effective since there can only be one Jester per day. However, the Jester will not revert from its chasing state even when trapped in this way so long as living employees remain in the building, so actions such as unplugging the Apparatus should be taken with care; the resulting power outage will open the Secure Door and release the chasing Jester.
The Jesters speed is based on how far away the an employee is. So if you were walking while the jesters behind you, it will be in walking speed as the employee.
