Snare Fleas are insectoid entities that can be found hanging on the ceilings indoors. They wait for an employee to walk near, then attempt to drop onto their head and wrap around it to suffocate the employee.

Bestiary entry[edit]

SNARE FLEA

Sigurd's danger level: 30%

Scientific name: Dolus-scolopendra.

A very large arthropod of the class chilopoda. Its body produces a silk which it primarily uses to propel itself to places where it is concealed. Its exoskeleton is somewhat fragile, and they can die from long falls. The snare flea does not produce venom, nor does it have a strong bite. It makes up for this weakness with its ability to tighten itself around large prey to suffocate.

The snare flea thrives in dark, warm areas. It cannot survive low temperatures and generally avoids open air and sunlight take the rats outside or just beat the hell otu of them! i think their insides could make a good milkshake,,

Spawn chances[edit]

Mechanics[edit]

Snare Fleas wait on the ceiling of any room or corridor. When an employee walks underneath a Snare Flea, it attempts to drop onto the employee's head. If the Snare Flea misses and falls onto the floor, it chases the employee for some time. If the Snare Flea successfully captures the employee, it wraps around their head, obstructing their view, muffling their voice, and forcing them to drop all of their items. It slowly damages the affected employee until it is removed or the employee dies. In single player, the Snare Flea detaches on its own once the employee reaches critical health.

Fleas can be killed by having the suffocating employee exit the facility, or when hit by a Shovel. If no one has a Shovel and the exit is near, the affected employee can be guided to the exit by voice.

If the employee is alone and grabbed by a Flea, they may still free themself. If the employee has Shovel or Stop Sign, they should remain calm and scan the ground to locate their Scrap. A Stop Sign will be displayed however if your Shovel does not appear, it is likely beside your Scrap Metal. Once you've grabbed your weapon, attacking will hit the Snare Flea and free you.

If a player is successfully teleported while a Snare Flea is wrapped around their head, the Snare Flea dies.

Stunning a Snare Flea while wrapped around the head of an employee will also cause them to release the employee, such as with a Stun Grenade or Zap Gun.

Strategy[edit]

Snare Fleas are either lethal or a mere annoyance depending on your current situation. Hitting one while it has grabbed a worker will knock it off, but they can be difficult to hit otherwise. With this in mind, you can hit it off a coworker, try to get another hit in, then drop your shovel for your fellow coworker you rescued to repeat the process if the Snare Flea grabs you. If you find it while alone, your best bet is to avoid it as they don't attack outside a very small area, however this may make some halls or doorways difficult to pass.

In the event that you are attached to by the Snare Flea and have no friends to assist you or a nearby exit to leave through, jumping into a pit is an effective means of killing the Snare Flea and increasing the survivability of your coworkers. In the event that you had a Shovel on you before being grabbed, you can pick it back up and hit the Snare Flea off yourself.

In single player, if you are grabbed and do not have a Shovel or Stop Sign to knock it off, the Snare Flea will detach voluntarily once you reach critical health, regardless of your health beforehand. Be wary that it will not die if it detaches this way and if it grabs onto you a second time you will die.

It is advantageous to carry a kitchen knife with you. When a flea bites you, use the scanner to quickly find the knife on the floor. Unlike a shovel, a knife is considered a scrap, so a scan can help you find it.
